Kimble Jett, MDThe Heart Hospital Baylor Plano offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of chest and lung diseases and cancer. We offer an innovative lung cancer screening program in conjunction with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Plano to allow for early intervention for lung cancer.

For guests with lung disease or cancer in need of surgery, the vast majority of our cases are performed using minimally invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Studies have shown that robotic-assisted procedures and VATS offer many potential benefits:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Quicker recovery
  • Fewer complications as compared to traditional open surgery

Catching Cancer Early

Lung cancer screenings with low-dose CT scans have been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by detecting a disease early, allowing for the possibility of curative surgery.

We work in concert with Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Plano to scan those at risk for lung cancer. All scans are then reviewed by a thoracic surgeon on The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano medical staff.

The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano's commitment to minimally invasive surgical techniques and comprehensive, skilled care after surgery has translated into a number of notable achievements, particularly in regards to lobectomy – a common procedure to remove part of a diseased lung.

  • Nearly all lobectomies are performed with minimally invasive techniques
  • Much shorter than average hospital stays
  • Outcomes that exceed national averages

More than half of thoracic procedures at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano are performed with robotic assistance. For procedures to remove lung cancer, the robot allows for improved vision and precision, often facilitating a more thorough procedure with better results.
