August 2, 2016 — U.S. News and World Report has for the first time ranked The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano in its 27th annual Best Hospitals rankings released August 2, 2016. The hospital is ranked 18th in the nation in "Cardiology & Heart Surgery" and rated "High Performing" in five Adult Procedures/Conditions: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, and Lung Cancer Surgery.
A hospital's overall "Cardiology & Heart Surgery" score is based on various data categories, including Survival, Patient Safety, Public Transparency (whether the hospital submits information to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology and agrees to have the results posted publicly), Number of Patients (high-risk Medical inpatients in 2012, 2013, and 2014 in selected specialty-related procedures and diagnoses), Nurse Staffing, Nurse Magnet Status, Advanced Technologies, Patient Services (cardiac rehabilitation and hospice), Trauma Center (N/A), Intensivists, and Reputation with Specialists. The 50 top-scoring hospitals are nationally ranked.
The 27th annual Best Hospital rankings recognize 153 hospitals for their performance and reputation across 16 adult medical specialties. The U.S. News & World Report analysis of hospitals includes data from nearly 5,000 centers across multiple clinical specialties, procedures, and conditions.
