Interventional and Surgical Services

At THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano, we offer both interventional and surgical services. Interventional procedures are often preferred, as they are minimally invasive, require less recovery time, and pose less risk of complications. In other cases, heart surgery may be the best treatment option. Our cardiologists will review and discuss heart disease treatment options and we will work to identify the treatment plan that is in your best interest.

Our cardiovascular catheterization labs are equipped with sophisticated technology. The catheters, or thin, flexible tubes, that we use allow us to diagnose and treat many heart problems without the discomfort and recovery time of surgeries that are more invasive. When complex surgery is advised, however, the cardiac and vascular surgeons on our medical staff will leverage their rigorous training and experience as they perform procedures with adept skill.

We have become the second busiest surgical center in the North Texas region, while exceeding national quality and outcome measures. We have achieved high quality, high volume, and high guest satisfaction. At the same time, rates of infection and complications have stayed low, even in those over the age of 65, a group making up more than 30 percent of our guests.

Surgeons here also pioneered the Ross procedure for treating aortic valve disease in young patients, making our program one of the leading institutes nationwide performing this highly complex procedure. As a hospital fully dedicated to heart and vascular care we continue to demonstrate, through sheer volume of procedures performed, that more experience equals superior outcomes.

Interventional and Surgical services include:

• Open heart surgery, performed as beating-heart or off-pump surgery (including valve surgery such as heart valve replacement)
• Coronary artery bypass graft (also called CABG or heart bypass) surgery
• Angiography, a type of heart scan
• Intra-coronary ultrasound
• Aortic aneurysm repair
• Arrhythmia surgery (including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter)
• Laser ablation and sclerotherapy for venous disease
