Advanced Cardiac and Vascular Ultrasound
THE HEART HOSPITAL BAYLOR Plano uses advanced technology as part of the continuum of care you will receive, including ultrasound. This imaging technology uses high-frequency sound waves to create a picture of an organ or system in the body. It is an important part of diagnosing heart and vascular conditions, because it allows your physician to see how well your heart is functioning.
In cardiovascular medicine, duplex ultrasound is often the best diagnostic tool. It combines regular ultrasound with Doppler technology, which allows doctors to view veins and arteries as well as assess speed and blood flow. Duplex ultrasound is extremely safe; no radiation or contrast dyes are necessary.
Ultrasound technology is an important part of diagnosing heart and vascular conditions, including:
- Heart failure
- Enlarged heart (cardiomyopathy)

- Holes in the heart
- Blocked arteries
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)

- Aneurysms
Ultrasound is a simple, relatively brief test, yet provides a wealth of important data. The skilled technologist conducting your ultrasound test will monitor each aspect of the test.
